BPS Jembrana Regency has conducted the Socialization of the 2023 Agriculture Census at the Jembrana Chocolate Village on Saturday, July 8, 2023. At the event, a talk show was also held with the theme "The Development of the Agricultural Sector in Jembrana Regency". The talk show was opened with a keynote speech delivered by the Head of BPS Bali Province, Endang Retno Sri Subiyandani and presented three resource persons who are competent in their respective fields, namely I Wayan Sutama (Head of the Agriculture and Food Service of Jembrana Regency), Agus Sugiyanto (Head of UPTD KPH Bali Barat), and R. Rulick Setyahadi (Academician of Dhyana Pura University) and hosted by I Ketut Eko Susila Artha Permana (Head of the Communication and Information Service of Jembrana Regency).
In the talk show, the important role of the agricultural sector as the leading sector in Jembrana Regency was discussed. For Jembrana Regency, the agricultural sector is the driving sector that provides the largest contribution to GRDP. It was noted that in the last five years, the agricultural sector recorded the highest contribution in 2021, which amounted to 22.73%. In the same year, the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak so it can be said that this sector was able to withstand the contraction during the pandemic. In addition, it is also known that the agricultural sector is the sector with the most employment in Jembrana Regency. In the last five years, at least more than one-fifth of the population aged 15 years and above in Kabupaten Jembrana worked in the agricultural sector. This is certainly inseparable from the agricultural potential found in Jembrana Regency. It is recorded that there are 10,450 hectares of rice fields with a production of 58,022 tons in Jembrana Regency. Then, there are 6,341 hectares of cocoa land with a production of 2,943 tons in Jembrana Regency. From the horticulture subsector, it is known that watermelons and bananas in Jembrana Regency have a production of 148,725 and 186,676 tons, respectively. As for the fisheries subsector, it was recorded that the volume of capture fisheries production in Jembrana Regency reached 16,907 tons.
After the keynote speech related to the urgency and benefits of implementing ST2023, the activity continued with a panel discussion. In his turn, the Head of the Agriculture and Food Service Office of Jembrana Regency conveyed the conditions and phenomena that occur in the agriculture and food sector in Jembrana Regency. He conveyed the urgency of synchronizing agricultural data in the agency with BPS. This is so that policy making can be done on target. The presentation was continued by the Head of UPTD KPH West Bali who conveyed the utilization and management of social forestry in Jembrana Regency. The important point in the presentation is that it needs the support of all parties so that the forest can be utilized by the community without disturbing the existing ecosystem. Academics from Dhyana Pura University explained the importance of the agricultural sector in supporting the sustainability of SDGs in Jembrana Regency.
