Denpasar City Consumer Price/Inflation Index February 2022

Abstract

In February 2022, Denpasar City was recorded to experience deflation as deep as 0.36 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 107.48 in January 2022 to 107.09 in February 2022. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) and year to year inflation rates (February 2022 to February 2021 or year on year/ YoY) were recorded as high as 0.72 and 2.18 percent, respectively.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, four expenditure groups experienced deflation, namely: group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) of 2.48 percent; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as deep as 1.26 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as 0.32 percent; and group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as 0.15 percent. Five expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely: XI (personal care and other services) as high as 2.02 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 1.50 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.03 percent; group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as high as 0.03 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, two other expenditure groups recorded no change in index or were stagnant, namely group IX (education) and group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants).

Of the 90 cities observed for inflation, 37 cities experienced inflation and 53 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Kupang City (East Nusa Tenggara) as high as 0.65 percent, while the deepest deflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan City (Bangka Belitung Islands) at 2.08 percent. If sorted from deepest deflation, Denpasar City with a deflation of 0.36 percent ranks 24th out of 53 cities experiencing deflation.
