Development of the Combined Consumer Price Index for Denpasar City and Singaraja City December 2023

Abstract

In December 2023, the combined CPI for Denpasar City and Singaraja City recorded inflation as high as 0.48 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 115.83 in November 2023 to 116.39 in December 2023. Meanwhile Therefore, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) December 2023 is 2.77 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (December 2023 to December 2022 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.77 percent.

Inflation occurred due to an increase in the prices of goods/services for public consumption as indicated by an increase in the CPI in eight expenditure groups, namely: group I (food, beverages and tobacco) as high as 1.03 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.84 percent; group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) as high as 0.82 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.66 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as high as 0.55 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.19 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.11 percent; and group X (food and beverage/restaurant provision) as high as 0.03 percent. On the other hand, one group recorded deflation, namely group II (clothing and footwear) at 0.41 percent.

On a year-on-year (yoy) basis, Denpasar City recorded inflation of 2.54 percent, while Singaraja City recorded inflation of 4.31 percent. Nationally, the highest yoy inflation was recorded in Sumenep City (East Java) at 5.08 percent. On the other hand, the lowest inflation was recorded in the city of Bandung (West Java) at 0.63 percent. If ranked by highest yoy inflation, Denpasar City is listed in 57th place, while Singaraja City is listed in 5th place.
