Development of the Consumer Price Index / Inflation in Singaraja City August 2020

Abstract

In August 2020, Singaraja City experienced deflation of -0.42 percent with the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) of 104.62. The inflation rate for the current year in August 2020 was recorded as high as 0.96 percent. Meanwhile, the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2020 against August 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 1.22 percent.

 

Three expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) at -1.29 percent, group IV (equipment, tools and household routine maintenance) at -1.29 percent and group VII (information, communication , and financial services) by -0.05 percent. Meanwhile, five expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group IX (education) as high as 1.34 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.56 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.39 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.03 percent; and group V (health) as high as 0.02 percent. Three other expenditure groups recorded no change in index or growth, namely group III housing, water, electricity, and household fuel), group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) and group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants).

 

Commodities recorded as contributing to deflation in August 2020 include broiler chicken, canang sari, kale, long beans, tomatoes, spinach, packaged liquid milk, bottled water, eggplant and shallots.

 

Of the 90 CPI cities, 53 cities experienced deflation and 37 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Kupang as deep as -0.92 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in four cities, namely Sibolga, Tembilahan, Bekasi and Banyuwangi each as deep as -0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Meulaboh as high as 0.88 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in the three cities of Batam, Kediri and Kotamobagu as high as 0.02 percent respectively. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Singaraja ranks 12th out of 53 cities experiencing deflation.
