Singaraja City Consumer Price / Inflation Index Development in May 2020

Abstract

In May 2020 Singaraja City experienced a deflation as deep as -0.22 percent with the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) of 104.61. The current year inflation rate for May 2020 is as high as 0.95 percent. Meanwhile, the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2020 against May 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 1.95 percent.

 

Three expenditure groups recorded deflation (m to m), namely group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) as deep as -1.04 percent; group I (food, drink, and tobacco) as deep as -0.46 percent; and group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as deep as -0.07 percent. Meanwhile, four expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group III (housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels) as high as 0.07 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.04 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.03 percent; and group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.01 percent. Four other expenditure groups recorded no change in index or stagnant, namely group II (clothing and footwear); group VIII (recreation, sports and culture); group IX (education); and group X (food and beverage / restaurant supply).

 

Commodities recorded contributing or contributing to deflation in May 2020 include, cayenne pepper, canang sari, red chili, purebred eggs, garlic, tomatoes, apples, and gold jewelry.

 

From 90 CPI cities, there were 23 cities experiencing deflation and 67 cities experiencing inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Luwuk (Central Sulawesi) as deep as -0.39 percent while the shallow deflation was recorded in Manado (North Sulawesi) as deep as -0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan (Bangka Belitung Islands) as high as 1.20 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in three cities namely Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Bogor (West Java) and Madiun (East Java) each as high as 0 , 01 percent. If ranked from the deepest deflation, Singaraja ranks 9th out of 23 cities experiencing deflation.
