Abstract

In March 2023, the combined CPI for Denpasar City and Singaraja City was recorded as experiencing inflation as high as 0.07 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 114.08 in February 2023 to 114.16 in March 2023. Meanwhile Meanwhile, the March 2023 calendar year inflation rate (year to date/ytd) is 0.8 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (March 2023 against March 2022 or YoY) was recorded as high as 5.46 percent.

Inflation occurred due to an increase in the price of public consumption goods/services as indicated by an increase in the CPI for seven expenditure groups, namely: group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as high as 0.64 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) as high as 0.50 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.29 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.11 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.07 percent; group X (providing food and drinks/restaurants) as high as 0.05 percent; and group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.04 percent. In contrast, three groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) of 1.37 percent; group IX (education) as deep as 0.14 percent; and group XI (personal care and other services) as deep as 0.03 percent.

Of the 90 CPI cities, 65 cities experienced inflation and 25 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in the City of Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) as high as 1.30 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in the City of Denpasar (Bali) as high as 0.03 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in the city of Bandung (West Java) 1.50 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in the city of Dumai (Riau) 0.02 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 65th and Singaraja City ranks 29th out of 65 cities experiencing inflation.
