Abstract

In May 2023, the CPI of Denpasar City and Singaraja City recorded inflation as high as 0.34 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 114.20 in April 2023 to 114.59 in May 2023. Meanwhile Meanwhile, the May 2023 calendar year inflation rate (year to date/ytd) was 1.18 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (May 2023 against May 2022 or YoY) was recorded as high as 4.07 percent.

Inflation occurred due to an increase in the price of public consumption goods/services as indicated by an increase in the CPI for six expenditure groups, namely: group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) as high as 1.71 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) as high as 1.32 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.23 percent; group X (providing food and drinks/restaurants) as high as 0.09 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.03 percent; and group V (health) as high as 0.02 percent. In contrast, three groups recorded deflation, namely group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as deep as 1.03 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as 1.01 percent; and group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as 0.2 percent.

Of the 90 CPI cities, 77 cities experienced inflation and 13 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan City (Bangka Belitung) as high as 1.28 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Pangkal Pinang City (Riau Islands), Tangerang City (Banten) and Mamuju City (West Sulawesi) each as high as 0.01 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in Kupang City (East Nusa Tenggara) 0.79 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in Bima City (West Nusa Tenggara) and Waingapu City (East Nusa Tenggara) each of 0.03 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 25th and Singaraja City ranks 20th out of 77 cities experiencing inflation.
