Development of the Consumer Price Index / Inflation in Denpasar October 2019

Abstract

In October 2019 Denpasar City recorded inflation as high as 0.15 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 133.56. The inflation rate for the calendar year October 2019 was recorded as high as 1.57 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (October 2019 against October 2018 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.70 percent.

 

Two expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group I (food stuff) as high as 1.06 percent and group III (housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel) as high as 0.13 percent. Meanwhile, five groups recorded experiencing deflation, namely group V (health) as deep as -0.45 percent; group IV (clothing) as deep as -0.34 percent; group VII (transport, communication and financial services) as deep as -0.16 percent; group II (prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco) as deep as -0.06 percent; and group VI (education, recreation and sports) as deep as -0.04 percent.

 

Commodities recorded contributing to or contributing to inflation in October 2019 include broiler chicken, rice, oranges, salak, boiled cobs, skipjack fish, apples, bed sheets, mattresses, and cooking oil.

 

From 82 CPI cities, 43 cities experienced inflation and 39 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Manado City (North Sulawesi) as high as 1.22 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Pematang Siantar City (North Sumatra), Tual City (Maluku) and Ternate City (North Maluku) each as high as 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Balikpapan City (East Kalimantan) as deep as -0.69 percent while the shallow deflation was recorded in Palopo City (South Sulawesi) as deep as -0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, then Denpasar ranks 20th out of 43 cities experiencing inflation.
