Abstract

In August 2022 Denpasar City was recorded to experience deflation as deep as 0.04 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 111.75 in July 2022 to 111.71 in August 2022. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year ( year to date/ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (August 2022 to August 2021 or year on year/YoY) were recorded as high as 5.07 percent and 6.56 percent, respectively.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, seven expenditure groups experienced inflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) of 2.79 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) by 1.50 percent; group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) by 0.52 percent; group IX (education) by 0.46 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) by 0.38 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) by 0.34 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) by 0.26 percent. Four other expenditure groups experienced deflation, namely group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) of -1.68 percent; group VI (transportation) by -1.49 percent; group V (health) by -0.07 percent; group VII (information, communication, and financial services) by -0.03 percent.

Of the 90 cities observed for inflation, 11 cities experienced inflation and 79 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Ambon City (Maluku) as high as 0.82 percent. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan (Riau Islands) as deep as 1.65 percent. If sorted from deepest deflation, Denpasar City, with a deflation of 0.04 percent, ranks 74th out of 79 cities experiencing deflation.
