Development of Denpasar City Consumer Price Index August 2023

Abstract

In August 2023, Denpasar City was recorded as experiencing inflation as high as 0.21 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 114.72 in July to 114.96 in August 2023. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2023 to August 2022 or year on year/yoy) was recorded as high as 1.58 percent and 2.91 percent.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, seven expenditure groups were recorded as experiencing inflation (m to m), namely group IX (education) at 2.43 percent; group V (health) at 0.53 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) of 0.47 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) by 0.39 percent; group IV (equipment, equipment, and household routine maintenance) by 0.37 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) at 0.30 percent; and group X (provision of food and drinks/restaurants) at 0.16 percent. Meanwhile, four other expenditure groups experienced deflation, namely group VI (transportation) by 1.01 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) by 0.21 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) by 0.13 percent; and group VII (information, communication and financial services) by 0.01 percent.

Of the 90 cities under national inflation monitoring, 44 cities experienced inflation and 46 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Manokwari (West Papua) at 0.55 percent, while the deepest deflation was recorded in Waingapu (NTT) at 1.20 percent. If ranked by highest inflation, Denpasar City, with inflation as high as 0.21 percent, is in 11th place out of 44 cities experiencing inflation.
