Development of Consumer Price Index / Inflation in Denpasar City April 2019

Abstract

In April 2019, Denpasar City experienced inflation of 0.26 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) amounting to 132.39. The inflation rate for April 2019 calendar year was 0.68 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (April 2019 to April 2018 or YoY) was recorded at 2.24 percent.

 

Four expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group VII (transportation, communication and financial services) of 1.12 percent; group VI (education, recreation, and sports) by 0.51 percent; group I (food ingredients) by 0.10 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) by 0.04 percent. Meanwhile, the other three groups recorded deflation, namely group II (processed food, drinks, cigarettes, and tobacco) by -0.08 percent, group V (health) by -0.06 percent; and group IV (clothing) by -0.03 percent.

 

Commodities listed as contributing or contributing to inflation in April 2019 include: shallots, garlic, air freight rates, motorbikes, and tuition fees.

 

Out of 82 CPI cities, 77 cities experienced inflation and 5 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Medan (North Sumatra) at 1.30 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Pare-pare (South Sulawesi) of 0.03 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in Manado (North Sulawesi) of -1.27 percent and was undermined in Maumere (East Nusa Tenggara) of -0.04 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 61st out of 77 cities experiencing inflation.
