Development of Denpasar City Consumer Price / Inflation Index November 2019

Abstract

In November 2019 Denpasar City experienced a deflation as deep as -0.01 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 133.54. The November 2019 calendar year inflation rate was as high as 1.55 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (November 2019 against November 2018 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.34 percent.

 

Three expenditure groups recorded deflation (m to m), namely group VII (transport, communication and financial services) as deep as -0.49 percent; group IV (clothing) as deep as -0.26 percent; and group I (food ingredients) as deep as -0.10 percent. Meanwhile, four expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group III (housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel) as high as 0.29 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.18 percent; group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco) as high as 0.09 percent; and group VI (education, recreation and sports) as high as 0.07 percent.

 

Commodities recorded contributing or contributing to deflation in November 2019 include air freight rates, cayenne pepper, red chili peppers, cob, tuna, squid, broiler eggs, rubber eggs, rubber slippers, apples and wet shrimp.

 

From 82 CPI cities, 25 cities experienced deflation and 57 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan City (Bangkal Belitung) as deep as -1.06 percent while the shallow deflation was recorded in Batam City (Riau Islands) and Denpasar City (Bali) each as deep as -0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Manado City (North Sulawesi) as high as 3.30 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Malang City (East Java) as high as 0.01 percent. If sorted from the deepest deflation, then Denpasar ranks 24th out of 25 cities experiencing deflation.
