Development of Denpasar City Consumer Price Index October 2022

Abstract

In October 2022 Denpasar City was recorded to experience deflation as deep as 0.04 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 112.34 in September 2022 to 112.30 in October 2022. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year ( year to date/ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (October 2022 to October 2021 or year on year/YoY) were recorded as high as 5.62 percent and 7.17 percent, respectively.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, two expenditure groups experienced deflation, namely group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) of -1.17 percent; and group VII (information, communication, and financial services) by -0.48 percent. Meanwhile, eight expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) of 1.29 percent; group VI (transportation) by 0.99 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) by 0.71 percent; group V (health) by 0.16 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) by 0.15 percent; group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) by 0.11 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) by 0.06 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) by 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, another expenditure group, namely group IX (education), did not experience a change in the index or was stagnant.

Of the 90 cities observed for National inflation, 61 cities experienced deflation and 29 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Gunungsitoli (North Sumatra) as deep as 1.48 percent while the highest inflation was recorded in Manokwari City (West Papua) as high as 0.76 percent. If sorted from deepest deflation, Denpasar City, with a deflation of 0.04 percent, ranks 58th out of 61 cities experiencing deflation.
