Development of the Consumer Price Index / Inflation of Denpasar City in July 2019

Abstract

In July 2019, Denpasar City experienced inflation of 0.60 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) amounting to 133.52. The inflation rate for the July 2019 calendar year was 1.54 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (July 2019 against July 2018 or YoY) was recorded at 2.27 percent.

 

Six expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group IV (clothing) of 2.70 percent; group I (food ingredients) at 1.61 percent; group VI (education, recreation, and sports) by 0.51 percent; group V (health) by 0.45 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) of 0.44 percent; group II (processed food, drinks, cigarettes and tobacco) by 0.03 percent; Meanwhile, one expenditure group experienced deflation, namely group VII (transportation, communication and financial services) as deep as -0.24 percent.

 

Commodities listed as contributing or contributing to inflation in July 2019 include: cayenne pepper, tariffs for PAM drinking water, red chili, gold jewelery, prescription drugs, apples, oranges, striped notebooks, mobile phone credit rates, and collared shirts.

 

Out of 82 CPI cities, 55 cities experienced inflation and 27 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Sibolga City (North Sumatra) of 1.88 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Makassar City (South Sulawesi) of 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Tual City (Maluku) as deep as -1.55 percent while the lowest deflation was recorded in Gorontalo City (Gorontalo) at -0.02 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 13th out of 55 cities experiencing inflation.
