Abstract

In April 2023 Denpasar City recorded inflation as high as 0.06 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 113.94 in March to 114.01 in April 2023. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (April 2023 against April 2022 or year on year /yoy) were recorded as high as 0.74 percent and 4.50 percent.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, seven expenditure groups experienced inflation (m to m), namely group VI (transportation) of 1.04 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) of 0.52 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) by 0.35 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) by 0.19 percent; group V (health) by 0.09 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) by 0.04 percent; and group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) by 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, three other expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) of -1.65 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) by -1.03 percent; and group VII (information, communication and financial services) by -0.02 percent. Meanwhile, group IX (education) did not experience any changes in index or was recorded as stagnant.

Of the 90 cities monitored by the National Inflation, 77 cities experienced inflation and the others experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Jayapura (Papua) as high as 1.44 percent, while the deepest deflation was recorded in Meulaboh (Aceh), which was as deep as 0.70 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation rate, Denpasar City with inflation as high as 0.06 percent ranks 73rd out of 77 cities experiencing inflation.
